It was a hot and stormy day last week when Celestial Dream Machine flew into place on the Highland Canal. This sculpture is located on the Highland Trail where Parker Road and Mississippi intersect. My first apartment was 500 feet from where this sculpture is installed, behind what is known now as (Advent Apartments at Cheery Creek North, 1090 South Parker Rd. Denver CO 80231).
When designing this sculpture I went back to this first apartment so close by, and the tiny sparrow that I found at the base of my window. I nursed and fed the little bird until it could fly away on its own. I like to think that the birds you see on the cutout shapes in the sculpture represent the ancestors of this very bird. The kite-like shape sits atop a triangle base and it is designed to look like it is about to fly away and get tangled in the cottonwood trees along the canal.
I have fond memories of running daily down this path for exersise into the Fairmount Cemetery grounds and enjoying what this neighborhood has to offer. I’m so glad that I was able to add life to this location in the form of a fond memory. Below see the progress photos:
Pure fantabulous, Annette.
